I am tickled PINK.
Well, our Dining Room is, at least. I live with a 6’2″ Marine Colonel. Let’s just say “pink” is not a color I would choose to decorate our home with. But, this year, I wanted a softer side of Summer to come through. So far, he hasn’t said anything, but then again, I haven’t gone too too crazy. I added a Pink Peony inspired wreath then pulled out several pieces of my pink and white Staffordshire from the French hutches where they are usually displayed. Today, I want to share our Farmhouse Dining Room Buffet.
Summer Decor in a Farmhouse Dining Room

Don’t Forget…!!!
Remember… one comment = one entry so comment often!

I realize that for most people, pink isn’t the color that comes to mind foremost when it comes to decorating your home, outside of a girl’s room. Although I have a fairly large collection of pink and white Staffordshire (or red and white as some prefer to call it), that has been as far as I have ever gone using this pastel color. So, don’t ask why I suddenly wanted to introduce more pink in our Dining Room. But, I did. And I love it.
It started out simple, as most of my projects do. At first, I was only gonna use some pink peonies which I had found on sale for a fabulous price at Hobby Lobby. I made a DIY Summer Peony Wreath to hang above the fireplace mantel in our Dining Room.
Next, I added some pink variegated hydrangeas, ferns, pheasant feathers and white antlers in my vintage Staffordshire soup tureen which never leaves our Dining Room.
Plates, a pitcher and a teapot were placed on each side to further the pink and white theme.
I saw these Pink Checked Pillow Covers online and ordered them with the intention of using them for Easter. They came in a few days after Easter (of course). Now I think I will leave them out for Summer.
It may feel like there is a lot of pink going on in this room, but keep in mind we also have a lot of wood tones throughout too.
I have debated several times to paint this buffet. It’s far from an antique. It’s not even vintage. If you remember The Bombay Company you may recognize this piece. I would love to add some more painted color to this space. I even bought the paint but always chicken out. 🙂
This is one of my fave little pitchers above.
I have also been contemplating replacing the artwork above the buffet but I just love the soft colors of this landscape painting. I keep my eyes open but have not found anything I like any better so until I do, this will remain.
Though the wall behind the buffet and the wall behind my fireplace mantel are farmhouse inspired, I can never get too far away from my love of English antiques and china. So I guess our Dining Room is English Farmhouse. LOL
Either way, I am happy with the look and love that it will carry me through the Summer months. How about you? Would you use touches of pink in your home’s decor? Next week I will share my Summer Mantel as well as my Summer Farmhouse Centerpiece. There may even be a Video Tutorial on how I made it in the works. Stay tuned.

English farmhouse? Sounds just right to me!
I have serious Staffordshire envy every time I see your dining room. Sigh. Such treasures you have.
I think you’ve done a great job of using pink to its best advantage here. It really is a lovely color; it’s just overdone in some spaces. Touches of it such as you have here are feminine but not syrupy.
You got those peonies at Hobby Lobby; where did you find the hydrangeas? Those are some of the prettiest I’ve seen! You have such a way with flowers.

Yes the peonies came from HL and I’m sorry to say the hydrangeas are a few years old. I have bins of silks that I just keep recycling. I know many don’t care for faux but I just don’t have time to be constantly watering and caring for indoor plants and flowers. Plus with cats its too dangerous. Thanks for stopping by! Hope your son is doing well I think of you often. Have a great weekend! xxoo

keep up the god work,, gad you are feeling better and I’m seriously looking for Chapter 9. Love that story… I’m still in England aftr the last chapter….and I’m milling around the estate of the handsome owner. haha

Barb, check your link on your email regarding this post today about the dining room. Numerous attempts to get it to work failed, kept telling me server not found. I did get the link to work for arranging flowers but the link for the wreath you could get it to come up but you couldn’t get rid of the pop-up overlay ! Just thought you should know because not all readers are going to be as persistent as I was about coming to your blog directly. I HAD to see your dining room because I love the soft pinks and am looking for some new ideas of where to use them in my new house. Looks fantastic!

Thanks so much for the heads up I will check it out.

I love all your decorating projects! Especially like the use of pink for the summer. Peonies are one of my favorite flowers and these are gorgeous. Thanks for all the inspiration.

LOL You sound so much like me with your decorating. I have been trying to decorate my home in the Farmhouse style but I too have a love for English china. Your pink looks great and I would have no problem sing it in my decorating. My house has Pewter walls and I love pink with Grey.

Love your use of pink for summer. I have a lot of cranberry in my home and have been thinking it looks too fall/wintery. Been thinking I need to lighten it up with pink. Your post just confirmed it for me?

I love your pink and white Staffordshire. There is a collection of Johnson Bros. called Old England Castles that is the same color. I believe both are what is called transfer ware. Do you know? I have only one castle but hope someday to have more. I’ll never have them all as I believe there are somewhere around ninety castles depicted!
You asked if we would use pink in our own dining rooms and my answer is definitely yes. My walls in my DR are actually a very subtle shad of pink. And I love displaying a vase of my pink peonies on my buffet. So we are in agreement with that subject!
What I really love about your DR buffet display is the white, chunky candle holders toward the back. Have been looking for some like that or similar but haven’t found what I want at the price I want to pay.

Naomi I had a hard time finding some too. I found these at Hobby Lobby. 🙂

When I read pink for the dining room I thought “yuk” but when I saw the pictures I was really impressed. It just goes to show that when you follow your own ideas it usually works out.
Decorating has always been my favorite past time. I still think of good ideas to try but my age limits what I can do. Country french & English have always been my style and I love that it remains with young people.
Congratulations on your decorating and inspiration.

I love the pink touches in the dining room! Years ago I had a lot of pink in our home; I gradually switched our decor to a darker color scheme. Pink is so calming! The buffet is beautiful in natural wood, but I am partial to white painted, slightly distressed pieces, making it look vintage.?

I love your whimsy in mixing pink China with antlers and on shutters. I think the beige striped pillows add just enough masculinity to make both sexes feel welcome in your living room. Delightfully done.

Barb, your Dining Room is so beautiful with your touches of pink and white. Great job of decorating! Love your pink and white Staffordshire — it so pretty! Your soup tureen is just so gorgeous! And the plates you have hung on the wall just add so much to your room! The pink and white pillows are just the finishing touch! You have been blessed with so many wonderful gifts. Always enjoy reading your posts and seeing your lovely pictures.
The picture on your wall is so calming! I’m sure you and your hubby enjoy just relaxing in here with a cup of tea.
Love your Bombay furniture and I like it how it is! I, too, love that Bombay store!
Like you, I am always hesitant to have a nice piece painted! I’m sure once a piece was done, I would love it but so far I haven’t been able to repaint my oak dining room furniture — and my hubby doesn’t help with his “Why would you want to ruin such beautiful furniture?”! So, in the meantime, it stays the same!
Have a wonderful week-end, Barb! Do pray you are feeling a lot better.

Your dining room is beautiful. I absolutely love transferware. I have a red transferware tureen like yours that I display on the bookshelf in my family room along with a bunch of other pieces but I like your idea of displaying flowers in it.
