I have been on the hunt for a coffee table for our Family Room.
For months.
I am like Baby Bear from Goldilocks – everything is either too small, too oblong, too woodsy, too whatever. Just too “too.”
But, I have decided, in my ever evolving decorator’s mind – I prefer something painted. At this point in our family room, we have a LOT of wood. A wood TV stand, a wood English Bar, and a wood antique Mahogany English Mantel you get the idea. Wood, wood, everywhere wood.
I am okay with that as our Family Room is English-inspired. However, I would like a piece of furniture that brings in a painted element. Hence, I have been looking at examples of Painted Coffee Tables for inspiration. I thought I would share some of the beautiful examples that caught my eye.

Now that I have figured out that I want to add a painted element to the Family Room, I need to be on the hunt at local vintage and secondhand stores for the perfect size and shape coffee table that I can paint. I would think it would be rather easy, but in my experience – when you want something, it’s nowhere to be found. In the meantime, I love these painted coffee tables….
This is a bit too rustic for my English Family Room, but I have to say I adore this Farmhouse Coffee Table by The Chelsea Project, with the added galvanized buckets.
I love this hand painted French typography coffee table by Artsy Chicks Rule. So much time and detail went into this work of art.
When I think of a table for our Family Room, this is close to what I image. I love this one by Daisy Mae Belle.
I would definitely consider something like this, which would also offer some storage capability. This beauty is by Knock Off Decor.
I really prefer a square shaped table because of the layout of our room. This gorgeous table is by Etsy seller Salt Creek Farmhouse.
I am definitely leaning towards a painted base and a stained top, like the one shown here by Dear Lily.
This gray painted table by Lilyfield Life offers drawers for storage. I love a coffee table that plays double duty.
I have to admit, I am slightly enamored with this barn wood top coffee table by Bless’er House.
I have had this fabulous vintage Union Jack fabric for several years, saving it for a special occasion. I gotta say – I am soooo tempted to make a Tufted, Upholstered Coffee Table like this one by Designed Decor.
Another beautifully painted coffee table by Lilyfield Life, this time with a more French style.
This Stenciled Nailhead Coffee Table makes me stop and give thought to something of this style, lovely done by Dimplicity.
I adore this painted suitcase with added legs. What a statement!
This is pretty close to what I am looking for. This coffee table by Habersham has a French feel, but the painted style with wood top gives it a less formal feel.
If I don’t have any luck finding exactly what I am looking for, I may end of making my own DIY version using these instructions by Shanty 2 Chic.
I have seen several of these coffee tables in second hand stores. I would definitely consider a round table with a chunky pedestal base like this one from Paddington Way.

Good morning, I have been thinking of painting my coffee table for a while now and was teetering between painting the top and leaving the wood. After looking at these I think a wood top is perfect.

I love a wood top, and I guess I am trying to be practical as well, as I know the grands will get it scratched and scuffed. I think a wood stain top would hold up better than a painted top. 🙂

i’m getting ready to paint a coffee table but am trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with two square faux marble inserts at each end of the table. I think I’ve finally come down to painting them in a slightly contrasting color…I don’t want them to stand out too much…and then either stencil something on them or use a transfer technique on them. Can’t hide the fact that they’re strange inserts so might as well do my best to highlight them and make them pretty! Thank you for all these great inspirations! They definitely helped me!

Have you seen where people have used planks of wood to make a completely new top? I have a similar table (three inserts of glass) and if it was not an oblong table I would use that one and add a new top. 🙂 Something to think about. ~Barb

I love the square options too. My favorites are the wood stain/paint combinations. Hope you find one soon.

I’d love to paint my large square coffee table, since it’s very scratched from years of abuse from kitty. These pictures give me some ideas of what I might do to change it up a bit. Thanks, Barb!

All of these are just beautiful but I understand how hard it can be to pick just one . I could not make up my mind so for the time being I’m using a Lane’s chest which is good because I hide my cookbooks in there . It will be fun to see what you come up with and I really understand about wood being every where .

Love them all! Don’t know how to choose, but I’m leaning toward the Salt Creek Farmhouse coffee table. Can’t wait to see which style you choose.

I like all of them! I have wood and painted furniture or a combination of wood/paint in every room. I also love pieces with storage. My living room coffee table is large and has pull-through drawers and a beautiful burl inlay top and fluted bun feet. The “matching’ end tables have the same top but the cabriolet legs make them much taller. They have two drawers. I got them at a great discount because they were a special order and the buyer didn’t like that the legs were different on each piece. Her loss was my gain!

Some beauties there! I especially love the French one. I need to paint one of mine, but I have a bad case of inertia. And I don’t like to paint. And I’m terrible at it.
