We have one more trip planned this Summer with the Babies.
We’ve already taken two. All car trips.
While the thoughts of being in a car for long trips with a
10-year old, 6-year old, and a 4-yr old may sound daunting –
I learned years ago that the secret is not letting them get too bored.
Which means lots of things to keep them busy and entertained.
(What did you think I was going to say – lots of Benadryl? 😀 )
Here is one of the kits I prepared in early Summer to prepare for these
trips, which included a handy and convenient pack of Wet Ones® Hand Wipes.
DIY Travel Kit for Kids
So many of my childhood memories revolve around our family
vacations. In fact, one of my very earliest memories (my Mama
said I was about 3 years old) is a family vacation in the NC Mountains.
I am a planner and organizer when it comes to vacations. The rest of my
life may be in an upheaval but when it comes to trips…baby I got it going on.
😀
The idea of this kit isn’t new. In fact, my own Mama made myself and my
siblings a travel kit; I made my own son a travel kit; and I have been making
these travel kits for my Grandbabies for years. I realize we are in the
technological age, and everyone uses iPads and tablets for entertainment.
I get that. My babies use those, too. But, I don’t like the idea of traveling and
sticking them in the backseat of the car, not conversing, or them being completed
immersed in the tablet and not even realizing where we are going.
So, I like to include some old fashioned entertainment. Coloring books and
pencils and a journal. Travel games such as “I Spy” – or a DIY “Treasure Hunt”
booklet with pictures and images of items they can “find” while on their vacation.
(I will share my DIY Treasure Hunt Booklet soon.)
You don’t need to spend a lot. I use a basic plastic bin from Walmart. Each
bin is color coded so each child knows who’s bin is who’s.
(Roo’s bin has blue handles.) You can even let your child personalize their
bin with stickers and markers, etc, and he wanted owls.
Here is what I placed inside:
*(buy extras, you will need them) 😀
Activity Books
Crayons and Colored Pencils
Chapstick
Water Flavoring Pouches and Snacks
A Travel Journal and Pencils
DIY “Treasure Hunt” Booklet
Speaking of Color Coding… I also color code their clothing bags. I pack
one day’s outfit into a gallon-sized baggie (shirt, shorts, undies and socks)
and add stickers which match the color of their travel bin. This alleviates the
guessing game during travel, and they can just go and grab one of their
color-coded baggies to dress themselves. No digging through the suitcase.
So what is the number ONE thing I cannot travel without, whether I am
with the babies or alone with The Hubbs? These!
I always thought of Wet Ones® Hand Wipes as something with limited
uses. Wrong! Take a look at all of these uses!!!
The thing I appreciate most about this product is that they kill 99.99% of all
bacteria and the convenient packaging options makes it easy to whip one
out any time for a quick clean-up . Do you have ANY clue how much crud
these kids come in contact with on travels? 😀 I also like that the Aloe
formula won’t irritate or dry up their skin, and they are hypoallergenic and
clean up better than plain soap and water which may not always be available
– especially on the road. They are also available in Fresh Scent or Citrus.
I gotta say, we love the Sensitive Skin variety.
How do you do to keep your little ones occupied? I would love to
hear your ideas. Share your ideas below, and please make sure
you try one of these Wet Ones® Hand Wipes this Summer.
