I make a lot of confessions on my blog.
Here is another one.
I collect tin cans like they are going out of style.
I really do.
Coffee cans. Vegetable cans. I collect them all.
I can’t help it. I keep telling myself enough is enough, but then I create
a cute, craft project with them and it only solidifies my need. 😀
I think you may want to also start a collection when you see my…
Patriotic Tin Can Craft
I am so happy to be joining a group of ladies for the monthly
Farmhouse Friday Blog Hop. It’s one of my favorite days of
the month, because I adore all things Farmhouse. So please
make sure you follow until the end to see all these projects.
Know what else I adore? All things Patriotic, so this project
was a pure pleasure to create and share. Best of all, it’s simple
and easy. You can make one can or make all three.
Here’s how I did it…
I started with three, freshly-washed, tin cans. These held
tomatoes and I love this particular size of tin can for crafting.
I created three coordinating, Patriotic printables.
(I am sharing these below.)
I trimmed these a bit to fit the cans. Then, I simply
taped them onto the cans. I needed two printables per
can to completely cover them all the way around. I had
to trim off the length of the second one to make it fit.
I used a variety of flowers and fun additives to fill them.
In each can, I also added a little chalkboard sign which
spelled out U-S-A.
I also created two mini printables which I made into
small banners, using a red and white striped straw as the
“flag pole.”
I used white and blue hydrangeas in the red and white Stripe
can, as well as, the blue and white Star can.
Finally, I added red geraniums and yellow sunflowers to the
“Pledge of Allegiance” can, with some mini flags as accents.
Once I had all three cans filled, I lined them up in the
center of my table which features a Patriotic tablescape
which I will share more of next week.
They are perfect for this Red, White and Blue themed table.
The best part about using tin cans for holding fresh flowers
is that you can fill them with water and not worry about them
leaking onto your surface. I will share an easy way to get the
“rusted” look on tin cans next week.
This project cost me next to nothing. I had the cans.
The printables were printed on my own copier.
I cut the flowers from my yard. All I bought were the
chalkboard signs. You can buy your own chalkboard
signs here…
Thank you for letting me share my Patriotic Tin Cans with
you. I am also sharing the printables for this craft, as well
as the plain “Pledge of Allegiance” Printable, too, which would
be really printed in a simple frame.

I think collecting tin cans is called hoarding in some states 🙂 Very cute idea though! I love that you gave us the printables!

Barb,
View CommentThis is such a creative, beautiful way to celebrate our freedom. I love the printouts and have copied them so I can make this project. I will even make extras to give to family on the 4th of July. What a treat! Thanks so much for sharing your talents.

Hi,
View CommentThese are so cute and would love to try and make them. Where do you get tin cans? I also want them to be large enough for a centerpiece for a 8 person round table. Is there a tin can size you suggest? Thank you!
Barb says
Hi Molly – I saved and used large diced tomato cans. You could buy new, empty paint cans from any home store. 🙂
