Pumpkins + Burlap = Fall !
Well, at least in my little corner of the world it does.
😀
I just love the texture of burlap, and even though I use
it throughout the year, there is something about burlap
during the Fall that just seems to meld to me.
And, you know else what I love as much as burlap?
Easy projects!
As in “30-minutes or less” easy projects.
I needed a small sign above my farmhouse sink,
and after tirelessly searching for one that was the
perfect fit, I finally gave up and decided to make one on my own.
Here is how to make a
Burlap and Galvanized Letter ” Gather” Sign.
Before we get started, I am participating in a great
Blog Hop today with some amazing other Bloggers.
I will post all of the links below, so please make sure you
visit each one and give them some Blog Hop love!
Let’s get started making our sign…
I started with a 6″ wide piece of thin, luan paneling from Lowes.
It came about 36″ long. You will need to decide how long
your board needs to be, based upon the word(s) you spell out.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a way to cut your board.
Just ask your friendly Lowe’s staff to do it for you.
I found these 4″ Galvanized Letters at Hobby Lobby.
They were regularly $2.99 each but I waited until
they went 40% off.
I already had the burlap.
I started out by cutting the burlap about 1.5″ larger all around
than the board. I didn’t even measure. I just rough cut it.
Using a heavy-duty stapler, I simply folded the burlap around
to the back of the wood and stapled it on.
I treated the corners like you would a package
then trimmed the excess fabric a bit.
If the unfinished backside bothers you, you can cut some felt
or leftover fabric and glue it on.
But, this is a 30-min project remember? 🙂
I went ahead and added a sawtooth hanger on each side.
Much easier to add before attaching the letters.
Painters tape was used to create a straight line guide
when attaching the letters.
I simply spaced the letters where I needed them,
and hot glued them in place.
I decided the last minute to add some small cording to the
outer edge. I had some assorted ribbons, but they were a bit
too wide. This leftover cording was perfect!
I may replace this later with some galvanized upholstery nail tacks.
That’s it!
I love how the galvanized letters works well with the
DIY Galvanized Half Wall-Bucket I created.
Not including my trip to Lowes to get the board –
(I was already there anyway so it wasn’t a special trip)
I had this project completed start to finish in about 30 minutes.
It works perfectly above my farmhouse sink doesn’t it?
I can see so many variations of this sign just by simply
changing the letters.
What would you spell out?
