Do you like leftovers?
Are you a stand at the fridge and eat them right out
of the container kind of person…
or do they have to be heated up and served on a plate?
Well today – I am “serving” a different kind of “leftover.”
I am sharing our Front Porch Fall Tour from a few years ago.
The best part, is it doesn’t need reheating and won’t
add any extra calories.
You can look all you want.
🙂
For those who have been faithful Everyday Friends
all these years, I hope you enjoy this tour as much the
second time around.
Thinking of you from Jolly Ole’ England….

Welcome to The Everyday Home’s
Fall Porch Tour
After more than a week of almost non-stop rain and icky overcast skies…
the sun peaked it’s little nose from under the clouds and invited me to
come out and play. So I grabbed my little spade and my pink garden
gloves, and went to work.
You see, I had a little tete-a-tete planned with a very special lady –
which I want you to meet.
I love subtle color. I love whites and soft pinks and pale blues.
When I see subtle colors used in other homes, I am envious.
And every time, I vow that I, too, will create a palette of soft neutrals
and creamy tones and it will be a glorious site.
But then my RED front door bursts out laughing and says…
“Darling, WHO are you kidding? Have you seen my color?”
And of course, she is right. She is always right.
There is nothing like a burst of color when you come up the sidewalk
to remind you that you may secretly covet the subtle tones of other
homes, and make large plans each year to replicate the same looks…
But, in the end- the reds and oranges and golds and tans and browns –
the colors of Fall….
Grab hold of my heart and gently call to mind how I am so drawn to
the textures and colors of Autumn.
… drawn to the pure essence of a bright, orange pumpkin…
…fascinated by the contrast of green moss and grapevine nestled within
stacks of Cinderellas…
…and each year, I am reminded that when I see yellow mums, their
tiny single blooms bursting forth with a profusion of color –
…that someone who dares to paint her door “Southern Red,”
could never be satisfied with subtle. No indeed.
So, instead of subtlety – I give you the opposite.
Forthright.
I make no qualms that I love color. And my small Southern porch
makes no apologies, either.
In fact, she (I say “she” because there is no doubt in my mind that
a Southern front porch is a Lady) – she is quite outspoken and full
of opinions and …and attitude. Lots of attitude.
In fact, she is the Julia Sugarbaker of porches.
She is confident and speaks her voice…
She is assertive, but rightfully so.
Assurance and tenacity must be, at all times, conveyed with a sense
of decorum and most all, Southern tact and manners.
But every Southern lady knows that she, too, has boundaries that
must never be crossed.
You can be proud, but tacitly so.
One can show strength, but only with a hint of Channel – as to not come
across too harsh and too brash.
A Southern woman also knows and accepts her boundaries.
She may have some limitations as a woman – but that does not
stop her from always persevering and being the very best that
she can be.
Because at the end of the day – when the lights have been turned
down, and her thoughts turn evermore to those who adore her, and
those who respect her for what she is – and not what she should be…
… in the end, she is just a porch. Who wants to be loved.
She may not be dressed like the other ladies, and honestly –
why would she. She is who she is.
She is warm and caring and inviting… and she makes you feel all
good inside when you are around her.
She is a true Southern Lady, in every way. She greets the day with
a coat of bright red lipstick on…
And come the night… she whispers softly to you when you confide
that it’s been a really bad day…
“Come sit with me a spell and tell me all about it. It’s gonna be ok, sugar.
Tomorrow, we’ll go buy new shoes.”
Bless her heart.
My porch says to tell everyone “hey…y’all are all welcome!”
