Happy Mother’s Day
to all of my Fabulous, Everyday Friends.
I hope you had a blessed and love-filled day.
I am so happy that the May No-Sew Showcase falls
on Mother’s Day because I made a charming tote for
my Daughter-in-Law, and even made a smaller
matching one for my granddaughter, too.

Burlap Totes
I am joining five other amazing ladies for this Showcase.
Links to their No-Sew Projects will be featured below.
Please take a chance to visit each one and see
what these amazingly, talented ladies have been up to.
My Daughter-in-Law works as a daycare teacher
and is always bringing paperwork and crafts
and bits ‘n pieces home.
And she loves totes.
So, I decided I would surprise her with a
Monogrammed Burlap Tote.
It was so easy, and I may end up making
several more.
Here are the supplies…
(1) Pre-made Burlap Tote
1/4-Yard Fabric
Iron-On Labels,
Packages of Iron-On Monograms
I also made two coordinating, smaller jute totes.
These were sold in a package of (4) for $2.99.
I thought Amanda could use a smaller one to hold
her cell phone and keys while she was working.
I made a coordinating, small tote for my
sweet Granddaughter, Caity.
Here’s all I did…
I roughly measured the width of fabric I would
need for adding a border at the top of the larger tote.
This area of the tote is also the opening of a front
pocket, so I wanted the fabric to tuck down inside
the pocket a bit.
After determining the width needed, to include a
turned 1/4″ hem on each side,
I ironed down both side hems and also ironed
the top hem.
I used some Heat n Bond to give the fabric square
some weight. I cut it the same size as the fabric,
and ironed it onto the back of the fabric following
the directions on the package.
Using a hot-glue gun, I added a generous
bead of glue along one side of the Heat ‘n Bond side
of the fabric, then attached the fabric
to the tote. Add more glue as needed for a secure fit.
Then, I glued down the top and opposite side.
I decided last minute that a ribbon accent was needed,
but all I had on hand was this striped design.
It occurred to me when I held it up that it
could not have been more perfect.
I LOVE when I can use bits and pieces of leftover
crafting supplies!

Next, I ironed on the label…
Then, ironed on the monogram on top of the label.
I did not think there was an adequate amount
of adhesive on the back of the monogram to safely
hold it into place, so I carefully added some hot glue.
{and I got the burn marks to prove it.} 😀
For the two smaller totes, I simply added a band
of folded and ironed fabric to the top of
one of the totes.
Hot glue adhered it to the top of the tote.
Another monogram was glued in the center.
More striped ribbon was placed down the center of the fabric band.
For Caity’s Tote, her “C” monogram was glued to the
center, also. A small burlap bow was glued at the
top corner, and I used the same blue and green
polka dot fabric from her Mama’s tote to create
a mini fabric rose.
And that’s all there was to it.
I love the look – and I especially love that our
“Little Mama” could have her own tote, too.
You could use any type tote or bag; any color and
style of fabric; and any type of adornments to create
your own totes.
I was able to find all of these products at Hobby Lobby.

I think I will make one for myself to carry
to the pool this Summer.
