Welcome to the
No-Sew Decorating Showcase:
For the past two months, I have had so much
fun sharing No-Sew Decorating Projects with
five other fabulous Bloggers, and it has been so
This month, we are delving into the mysterious – the scary…
the gory… and the down-right cute as a pumpkin.
Did you happen to catch the
All Things Home Halloween Tour this past week?
I featured a Halloween Mantel in all its semi-gory glory.
I even shared how I created my
Now… I am going to show you how I made this scary
Gauzy Spider-Infested Mantel Scarf.
I started with about 3/4 yard of white felt. You could use
any white fabric, I had this left over from last Christmas.
I used double-stick tape to hold it in place.
Next, I started cutting out points and peaks in an uneven
manner with no set pattern…
You want to end up with something like this…
I purchased two packages of cheese cloth from my fabric store.
I cut the cheese cloth into strips at random widths and
lengths. Some were approx 18″ and some were approx 24″.
I didn’t measure them to get an exact length, I just started
Then, using more double-stick tape….
(what? this is a no-sew project)
I started taping the strips onto the top of the cheese cloth,
again in random lengths – until I got the fullness and thickness
I wanted. I ended up using only one of the packages.
Now, the fun part started. My sweet grandson, Roo, was staying
the night with us, and he was absolutely fascinated by this whole
process. So, it was only natural that I let him help me add the
spiders. Speaking of “scary” …here is my sweet baby boy.
We call him “Roo-pire.”
This is for his birthday invites, btw. I created this on Picmonkey, fyi.
As a matter of fact, since I created this Creepy Halloween Mantel,
ALL my grandloves have started changing in subtle ways…
We added several packages of Dollar Store spiders…
Once we had the scarf the way we wanted it… the rest was just
adding the fun stuff. You know – like rats and skulls and black crows
and books about Potions and Spells and Magic.
We are going to use this same “gauzy” idea at my Son and DIL’s house
for Roo’s Halloween themed-birthday party Oct 29th.
We are going to create a table skirt for the cake, and also create
a cute Happy Birthday Banner by adding some cut-out
letters and black ribbons.
And that’s about as scary as it gets around
The Everyday Home.
Speaking of something that isn’t scary – the budget
for all of these projects did not haunt me in my sleep.
Most of these supplies came from the Dollar Store
and Dollar Tree.
