Every year around this time, we anxiously await
“the call.”
Because we know that once we get “the call” we have to jump and run and take immediate action.
It’s a good call. It’s from our best friends who happen to be farmers, and who happen to grow some of THE best sweet corn there is…and who happens to give us all we want.
As in… a truck full. Sweet, tender, juicy homegrown goodness. Which we race straight home and get it into the freezer as quickly as possibly.
Well, accept for a few dozen ears which we devour over the following week.
Guess what? We got “the call.”
We are off tomorrow morning bright and early for a a few days in Williamsburg, Va celebrating our 21st Anniversary, and on the way back we will be bringing back lots and lots of yellow-kerneled packages.
I. Can’t. Wait!
So for this week’s Tasty Tuesday…
I thought I would share with you one of my newest Pinerest Boards.
There are so many corn recipes it’s almost
too sweet! 🙂
Such as…
How about some Sweet Corn Ice Cream…
(I have to try this one!)
In the end, no matter how many ways you cook it or use it in a recipe…sometimes it’s hard to beat the simple, honest goodness of grilled sweet corn.
My friends who share their corn crop with us every year told us about how to cook corn right in the husks in the MICROWAVE!
(I know, I know…sounds crazy!)
But it is super easy and super fast!
Speaking of sweet, my friend Deb at
Confessions of a Plate Addict did a blog post about it…
So… are you a cornaholic, too?
I will be in a state of corn-ucopia in a few days. 🙂
OK, I’m getting really corny…but can you tell
I am cornxcited. 🙂
Please visit my “Sweet Corn” Pinterest Page for more amazing recipes.
And don’t forget about
Home{work} Wednesday!
It was our BEST party yet and we can’t wait to share some of your Home{work} projects with
everyone. Party goes live Tuesday night at 8pm.
Hope to see you there!
Have a great week! xxoo Barb

We are corn crazy too! When we lived on the eastern end of Long Island amidst fields & vineyards there was one farm with a stand that had the best roasted corn EVER! Harbes Farms~ we would drive there almost daily in season to get more & more!
View CommentI didn’t know you could freeze corn! I am going to try the pound cake recipe for sure!
Wish u could lend me an “ear”…

When I lived in Chesapeake (Virginia), my son’s best friend’s family had a large farm. Mostly they grow soybeans and cotton but in the field in front of the house, they grow Silver Queen corn. Laws, that stuff is fabulous! The son would bring grocery bags full of corn and we would begin the freezing process. It was the most fabulous corn and such a treat to pull out of the freezer in December!

I’m a corn-a-holic too and usually wind up making myself sick when I’m able to get my hands on some straight out of the garden! I hope you have fun on your trip and are able to get some rest.

I am definitely a cornaholic but I think fresh corn doesn’t need anything~I like it roasted in the oven at 350 for about an hour. If it’s good corn it doesn’t even need butter or salt! Lately I have been throwing it in the oven husk and all, just cut off the base end with a knife about 1 inch, and hold the husk by the top end and the corn slides right out and most of the silk come off too! This works in microwave too, 4 minutes an ear. I will check out your pinterest page though, sounds tempting!

Sweet corn is my favorite food! When we were growing up, my mom would fix dozens of ears, and that’s what we would eat for dinner. I didn’t realize that it was a side dish!
View CommentAlthough nothing compares to a fresh ear slathered in butter and salt, I love Texas Caviar, corn casserole, and the harvest soup I make with corn. Those are probably my favorite “corn” recipes.
Living in Indiana, sweet corn season doesn’t start for a little while yet, but I’ll be watching. I have to fill my freezer to get me through the rest of the year!

Haha – I love your “corny” post! We LOVE sweet corn and also freeze it. We are a good ways off yet from having any here in Michigan but I’m hoping I am ready to can by the time its ready so I don’t have to give up as much room in my freezer to it. But there are some hot summer days when we would pretty much just eat sweet corn, salad and melon for dinner. And of course, the horses and goat love our scraps!

Is it already time? We usually go to the farmer’s market for a bunch. But since two of our kids have left home we don’t need as many. We love to freeze it and eat on it all winter!
