Ok, I’m sorry.
Yesterday I shared a tute called
12-Steps to Create a Blog Header!
hmmmm…. well I should have called it
“Wait Until Tomorrow Because Barb
Will Be Told About A New Software
Program That Is Just Like Picnik And
Is Easy To Use And Makes Great
Blog Headers.”
But, that’s a pretty long title, huh? 🙂
Yesterday, after I published my
PicMonkey and Picasa Tute, my
sweet friend Kim at
Savvy Southern Style told me about a
NEW program called Ribbet.
I wanted to both kiss her and hiss at her.
haha
In the end, I was THRILLED that she
told me about this newer program.
Where have I been?
So I have put together another Tute.
Only the BEST for you guys! 🙂
…and I am very happy to say it is
E-A-S-Y! (aka Easier!)
So – let’s get going shall we?
(Can you stand another full-length Tutorial?)
#1: Welcome to Ribbet.com
(all you former Picnik lovers will
instantly recognize some of these features…)
Choose “Make a Collage”
#2: Choose Collage Size
Choose how many squares you want
your Header to have. I chose four.
#3: Upload Your Header Pics
#1) Click on Upload Photos
*note, it says “Photos.” You can click on
an unlimited amount of photos and they
will upload at the bottom. (#2) Then you #3,
drag the photos up to the areas you wish.
#4: Spacing and Proportion
Once your pictures are uploaded, you can
now work with the #1: S p a c i n g between
the Pics, and #2: the Proportion of the
Size of the Collage. You can also
choose the Color between the pics.
For my demo, I chose white.
Simply use the color chart to choose
your desired color.
There is also a “Roundness” option which
will round the edges.
(I think Mother Nature used the
“Roundness” button on me!) 😀
Click DONE when you are happy
as a sweaty pig in a Summer mud puddle.
#5: Creating an Outer “Border”
This is where is gets just a tiny bit tricky,
but stay with me as it will make sense.
#1: Click on Frames.
#2: On Outer Color, choose a color
that will go around the collage.
This will create space around the Collage
where you will be able to write your
Blog Name, etc.
#3: Expand the Outer Color by using the
Outer Thickness Slider bar.
(see under #2 arrow)
Finally, choose the Color.
Again, you can get funky and go all out
with color, but for my example I chose white.
Hit Apply.
#6: Cropping the Collage
Go to #1: Basic Edits. Click on #2: Crop.
A window will appear over the Collage.
Use the cursor to #3: move the edges of this
box to crop the size of the collage so that
you have space both above and below the
Collage, as well as a “smidge” on each side.
see below…
#1 & #2: Leave as much space as you desire
above and below.
#3: Leave a smidge on each side.
#4: Click Apply.
#7: Adding Text
#1: Click on Text.
#2: Choose the desired text.
#1: Type in Text
#2: Click Add.
#3: Choose Color of Your Text.
#4: Choose Size of Your Text.
If you want all of your Text to be the same
color, simply note the Font Color and
override the default FFFFFF with the
HTML code of the chosen color.
#8: Adding Bling!
Just like Picnik, you can add some cute
effects. Simply click on Stickers…
I chose Fall icons.
You can edit your bling. You can change the color, flip them sideways or up and down.
You can change the size by using the outer
dots around the image.
(see below)
You can also rotate the image by using the
little dot above the image.
#9: Save the Image
As always, you gotta save your work.
#1: Name it.
#2: Here is where you can resize it as needed
for your Blog type.
Click Save Photo and save to a file
on your hard drive.
And here is my completed Blog Header.
It took me about 15 minutes to complete. 🙂
So, because of Kim
(you can send her your thanks!)
I was able to turn a TWELVE step tute
into a NINE step tute.
Thanks, Kim! 🙂
(Now can you help me do that to also
reduce my “roundness.) haha
I know this tute does not talk about
uploading to your Blog, re-sizing,
centering, etc etc etc.
I will try to create those tutes later.
But, I think most of you are pretty
well educated on the basic workings of
a blog. Right?
(crickets)
If something doesn’t seem to be working
for you. Email Kim.
No, no, no – email me. 🙂
And here is my solemn vow…
No more Blog Header Tutes this week!
Pinky Promise.
🙂
(Take that Picnik Creators. We don’t
need your software no more!)
xxoo

I think this is wonderful. I have been needing to do this very thing. Thank you! I don’t understand about the sizing thing – how to know what the size that my blog allows etc. I am assuming once I know this I can resize pretty easily..???

OK…I must be living under a rock. I have never heard of Ribbet and I’m just a little embarrassed to say that. This type of post takes a lot of time. Can’t believe you did 2 in a row. You are a better woman than I. Going to check out Ribbet right now!

This is a great tutorial, Barb! I had never heard of Ribbet either. I have a question… when I put a header pic on my blog, it seems that Facebook wants to use it on share posts rather than the pic that actually pertains to the post. Do you happen to know what causes this and how to fix it? I’ve googled and googled but can’t seem to find the right solution. Thanks!

I’m visiting from Stone Gable and came to see how this is done. Thanks so much and I will keep it. I don’t use Picnik, so all of this is new to me. But I really appreciate that you’ve made this sound easy and look forward to more about putting it on the blog itself.

Great tutorial! I’ll be back when it’s time to freshen up my header. I think I might be able to handle 9 steps, but 12 no way! Thanks for both of these tuts.

Bless you dear Barb! I have been wanting to do a header that would stretch across my blog and just couldn’t figure out how to do it. Then today I ran across your tutorial on Pinterest. I printed out your tutorial and followed it step by step. It was so easy to do using ribbet.com and I didn’t even have to do anything with the placement spacing on my blog header – it configured it perfectly – nice and centered! I am so pleased and want to thank you again for this wonderful tutorial. I’m a follower of yours now!!!!

I just stumbled across this blog post and so very glad I did. I have a “baby” blog I am playing with and I wondered how the collages were done. I have read your tutorial, played with the program, and re-read your tutorial. Thanks for the hints. Along with your help and familiarity with other programs, this has been a tremendous help! The Ribbet program is fairly easy to learn.
