Welcome to Tablescape Thursday!
This wonderful weekly event is hosted by my friend, Susan at
Susan always has a special treat in store for Tablescape Thursday, and you can
also see the list of all TT participants. Please make sure you visit her site.
Generally….a menu is planned and then a Tablescape is created. I created my
tablescape around these yummy
Southern Rosemary Butter-brushed Biscuits.
The golden color against the green rosemary is the perfect combination.
It also gave me a reason to use of my favorite plates from Southern Living @ Home.
I love the fact that you can weave any chosen ribbon through the edge and make it
coordinate with any occasion.
As you may know by now – I generally use fabric which I cut with pinking shears,
rather than tablecloths.
Not because I don’t love tablecloths…but because I love the fact I have so much
to choose from, and it gives me a reason to go to the fabric store.
(it’s my version of a candy store)
I started with a remnant table green linen, about $6. I splurged a bit on the
floral fabric. Hancock Fabric has a 50% off
fabric sale, so this fabric cost me about $30. Then, the plaid fabric
cost about $20 – but I had enough for six napkins.
Now…it’s time to see some of the “details…”
Papa and Mama Rabbits – they are faux but look like the real thing. (Marshall’s)
You’ll never guess where I found these?
At the hospital gift shop in Chapel Hill. Now before you say “I can’t believe she
was shopping while her husband was laying in the hospital bed….”
I have a very good excuse…….”
(thinking, thinking, thinking…)
Oh okay, I was shopping while my husband was laying in a hospital bed.
Aren’t these the cutest little set of Salt & Pepper shakers you’ve ever seen?
I love how one looks like he is trying to hop out of the basket, and the other looks
like he is saying…”What are you doing?”
Another Southern Living @ Home accessory – I love this soft green
church birdhouse.
Here is Mama Bunny….
Really special occasions call for the Vintage “Grits Family” silverware. It has
been passed down through four generations.
See….it even has a “G” for Grits. 🙂
Here is my favorite “lemon wedge” serving piece…
I inherited this china from Mr Grit’s mother. It’s a popular pattern, but I love it. (Noritake Jacquin)
I paired it with Portuguese chargers (I love the basket weave edge), and square
gold chargers, as well.
Each placesetting was topped with a different decorative egg.
I love this particular silk arrangement. I made this several years ago. I bought
lots of flowers at an after-season sale.
The tall hurricanes are vintage, purchased in Europe.
(sorry cannot remember where but I think England)
I filled them with moss and a soft yellow candle,
and tied a fluffy, french-wired bow around each.
Mr Grits said these pics do not do this tablescape justice.
(Yea, he actually said the word “tablescape. Good man – he is learning!)
The soft palette and sparkle of silver and crystal create a restful but inviting palette.
I love how I can use the fabric later in a formal Summer Tablescape.
Another view of the vintage hurricanes…
Here, you see a close-up of the stemware – both old and new. The pink glasses
were purchased in Paris.
I hand carried them home on the the train, afraid to pack them in my suitcase.
The etched glasses were Mr Grit’s great-grandmother’s wedding crystal.
As the evening grew later – the palette became even softer as the candleglow
wafted over the table…
I couldn’t dress the table and not accessorize the sideboard.
My pink and white transferware was replaced with a jug of forsythia, a whimsical
painted plate, a bird’s nest (Pier1), my two marble bunnies under
a glass cloche sitting (of course) on a cabbage leaf plate…
and a store-bought cake which I decorated with what else?
A Bunny on a Stick!
Frosting carrots were finished with green “parsley” tops.
Okay – see where the above carrot looks a little “smeared?”
Well – Baby Lily decided she needed to “test” Mommy’s frosting.
I love this square crystal cakeplate.
Small glass pots were filled with jellybeans and a tealight, then tied with
a pink ribbon. So that’s it….
I hope you enjoyed seeing my formal Easter Tablescape.
Please make sure you stop by Susan’s at Between Naps on the Porch to visit all the
other wonderful Tablescapers. See ya’ for Foodie Friday!!!

Okay, Barb, you’re gonna have to foot my dental bill because I’m getting cavities from all this eye candy!!! I cannot get enough of your amazing self. I truly can’t.
I couldn’t help but notice your beautiful plate with the lattice edge (is that what you’d call it?) and the ribbon woven through it. I got a similar plate for my mom a couple Easters ago and wove a pastel plaid ribbon through it. She still has it hanging in her dining room. And now I’m thinkin’ I want one. Just have to go hunting for it.
I could seriously look at your pics ALL day. And I TOTALLY see that bunny escaping and the other one saying, “Just WHERE do you think you’re going???”
Blessings! You’re so awesome I can’t hardly stand it!!!

The old family silver and china are my favorites, although everything is very beautiful.
As for shopping in the hospital, don’t feel guilty. You have to be at your best to deal with serious stuff, and some kind of a distraction helps you keep your wits about you. Anyway, hospital gift shops often have really great finds!

It’s a beautiful tablescape. I love the ribbon plate. I recently tried to find one, but couldn’t find the Southern Living at Home plate. For anyone who’s looking though, Michael’s has a very similar one by Plaid Remarkables. Actually, they have round, square, heart, etc. Very cute and only around $12 if I remember correctly. I have a pic of mine on my valentine blog post.

Barb, this table and sideboard are just sooooo stunning! I don’t even know where to begin. I love everything on this post! That china is gorgeous, and not one, but two beautiful chargers under it! Love both of your fabrics you layered for cloths. The bunny s/p shakers are adorable (and I loved your commentary about buying them)! I wish I could make a pretty, fluffy bow like you do, and I think it is so wonderful that you have the family flatware with the “G” on it! How cute to put your B.O.A.S. in the cake! This post is just filled with inspiration. Thank you. laurie
